Pop-out Next Cue overlay

The pop-out Next Cue overlay detaches the Next Cue display into a separate small floating window that is kept in front of other applications. This lets the operator monitor upcoming cues on a secondary screen while the main LTCast window or another application is in focus.

Opening the overlay

Click Pop out always-on-top window in the header of the NEXT CUE tab. A narrow window (320 × 460 pixels) opens in the top-right corner of the main screen. Drag it by its top bar to your secondary monitor and position it wherever suits your show position.

Overlay behavior

The overlay window:

• Is kept above other windows. LTCast asks the operating system to keep it above full-screen applications too; whether that works depends on the OS and on the other application, so test it with your media software before a show.
• Updates live with the same rows as the NEXT CUE panel in the main window, including the department filter you have set there. The overlay has no filter pills of its own.
• Has a thin top bar with a drag handle, a live timecode readout (so you can see it is receiving data) and a close button.
• Can be resized (down to a small strip) — the layout reflows to fit.
• Scales its text: hold Ctrl (Cmd on macOS) and scroll the wheel over it to make everything smaller or larger.
• Does not appear in the taskbar.

The overlay is display only. The standby/GO beep (Settings → Workflow → Appearance) is played by the main window, so it does not double up when the overlay is open.

Use cases

Common scenarios for the pop-out overlay:

• The operator runs another application (Resolume, video software) full-screen on the main monitor while watching upcoming cues in the overlay on a secondary screen
• A calling position where the AD uses a tablet stand with a secondary monitor attached and needs the cue countdown always visible
• A Stage Manager station with the main LTCast window on one screen and the overlay on a confidence monitor facing the stage

Closing the overlay

Click the close button in the overlay's top bar, or click the same pop-out button in the NEXT CUE tab header in the main window. Closing the overlay does not affect the main window or playback, and closing the main window closes the overlay with it.
