Quick Start

LTCast plays audio files and simultaneously outputs LTC, MTC, MIDI Clock, Art-Net, and OSC from a single clock. Every protocol stays frame-locked to the same source β€” there is no secondary sync to configure.

Step 1 β€” Install

Download the Windows installer or the macOS Universal DMG from the LTCast website. The macOS build is notarized and gatekeeper-safe. A 30-day Pro trial starts automatically on first launch β€” no account or internet connection is required.

Step 2 β€” Set up a virtual cable

LTC and MTC travel on audio and MIDI connections. If you are sending to software on the same computer, you need virtual cables. Art-Net and OSC travel over the network and require no additional setup.

  • LTC audio (Windows) β€” install VB-CABLE; select it as the LTC output device in LTCast
  • LTC audio (macOS) β€” install BlackHole; select it as the LTC output device in LTCast
  • MTC / MIDI Clock (Windows) β€” install loopMIDI; create a virtual port and select it in LTCast
  • MTC / MIDI Clock (macOS) β€” use the built-in IAC Driver (Audio MIDI Setup app); enable it and select the port in LTCast
  • Art-Net β€” no cable needed; enter the target IP address in LTCast Devices
  • OSC β€” no cable needed; enter the target IP address and port in LTCast Devices

Step 3 β€” Load a track

Drag an audio file onto the LTCast window. LTCast draws the waveform, auto-detects the LTC channel and frame rate, and shows the timecode in the main display. Supported formats: WAV, AIFF, MP3, FLAC, OGG, M4A.

If LTC is present in the file, the timecode display updates immediately to reflect the embedded start address. If no LTC is found, the display starts at 00:00:00:00 and LTCast generates timecode from the playhead position.

Step 4 β€” Pick your outputs

Open the Devices panel and configure each protocol:

  • LTC output device β€” select your virtual audio cable or audio interface output channel
  • MIDI port β€” select your virtual MIDI port for MTC and MIDI Clock output
  • Art-Net β€” enable the toggle and enter the target IP address; LTCast broadcasts OpTimeCode packets on port 6454
  • OSC β€” enable the toggle, enter the target IP and port, and choose a template (Resolume, disguise, Watchout, or custom)

All outputs share the same internal clock. You do not need to configure sync between them.

Step 5 β€” Play

Press Space or click the Play button. LTC, MTC, MIDI Clock, Art-Net, and OSC all begin streaming simultaneously from the moment playback starts. The timecode display, waveform playhead, and all protocol outputs advance together.

To stop, press Esc or click Stop. LTC continues broadcasting the current position as a static frame while stopped, so receiving devices hold their position.

Before doors

Run Pre-Show Check before the audience arrives. It verifies that all protocol outputs are active, all setlist audio files are present and readable, and device assignments are saved. Find it in the toolbar or under the Tools menu.
