Calling Script view

The Calling Script view is a read-only display designed for the Assistant Director (AD) or Stage Manager who calls cues verbally to the crew during the show. It presents each cue in plain language with STANDBY and GO markers, timed to the live playhead position.

Enabling the Calling Script

The Calling tab is hidden by default. Enable it in Settings β†’ Workflow β†’ Optional panels β†’ Show Calling tab. Once enabled, the Calling tab appears alongside the Triggers, Cues, and Structure tabs in the right panel. The setting is saved in the preset file, so the tab state travels with the project.

What the calling script shows

Each cue with a department assigned appears as a two-line block:

  • STANDBY β€” appears on screen when LTCast enters the standby window before the cue fires. The lead time is configurable per cue in the cue editor. Example: STANDBY β€” Lighting cue 12
  • GO β€” appears when the cue fires at its timecode. Example: GO β€” Lighting cue 12

Only cues with a department assigned appear in the Calling Script. Cues without a department are skipped β€” they are treated as internal markers, not crew-facing commands.

The Calling Script auto-scrolls as the show advances. The currently active STANDBY/GO pair is highlighted in the list. The AD does not interact with LTCast directly β€” they watch the screen and call cues verbally to their crew.

Standby lead time

Each cue has a standby lead time that determines how early the STANDBY line appears before the GO. Set the lead time in the cue editor's Standby field (in seconds). A 5-second lead means the STANDBY line appears 5 seconds before the cue fires. Standard practice is 3–5 seconds for most cue types; longer lead times are useful for complex lighting or rigging cues that require extra preparation.

Workflow in practice

The typical calling workflow during a live show:

  • The operator running LTCast is focused on the Transport and waveform views
  • The AD or SM watches a separate monitor showing the Calling Script full-screen
  • When STANDBY appears, the AD calls "Standby Lighting Q12" over comms
  • When GO appears, the AD calls "GO" and the lighting operator executes the cue manually

This workflow keeps human judgment in the execution path while giving the AD accurate, auto-advancing cue calls synchronized to the music.
