TC Calculator
TC Calculator converts between SMPTE timecode, frame counts, and duration. It is useful for quick show math — looking up a timecode for a specific bar or beat, or calculating how long a segment runs.
Accessing TC Calculator
Open the Tools tab in the right panel and click TC Calculator. The calculator is a standalone tool and does not affect playback.
Frame rate selection
Before entering values, select the frame rate to match your show: 24, 25, 29.97 DF (drop-frame), or 30 fps. The calculation changes with the frame rate — especially for 29.97 DF, which uses drop-frame counting. Select the wrong frame rate and the results will be incorrect.
Timecode to frames
Enter a SMPTE timecode in HH:MM:SS:FF format. TC Calculator instantly shows the equivalent total frame count. Use this when a console or software requires a frame-based offset rather than a SMPTE address.
Frames to timecode
Enter a frame count. TC Calculator shows the equivalent SMPTE timecode. Use this when a manufacturer specification gives an offset in frames that you need to enter into LTCast as a SMPTE address.
Duration calculator
Enter a start timecode and an end timecode. TC Calculator shows the duration between them in seconds and in frames. If the end is earlier than the start, the result wraps — check that both timecodes are on the same 24-hour cycle.
When a console operator asks "what timecode is bar 32?", look up the position in your DAW or score, then enter it in TC Calculator to confirm the SMPTE address before writing it into a cue.
